Bro Systems Administrator - RCAC, Purdue University

As part of a 2 year project, I am part of a inter-departmental team that will build a Bro Network Monitoring cluster on the 400Gbps research networking link at Purdue University. This project is funded by the National Science Foundation. The goal of the team is to deploy a fully automated cluster, which is rapidly scalable, and will eventually block threats without human intervention.
I am resposible for building the cluster in this project, and planning the infrastructure and systems administration side of things. I am making use of Puppet to "code" the clusters, and xCAT for image deployment. This allows rapid scalability as new machines can be added to the cluster automatically using code.

Technologies Used: Puppet, xCAT, Bro network montoring, Arista SDN, Cisco networking, BASH scripting
Employment time: January 2018 - Current

Teaching Assistant - Purdue University

At Purdue University, I am teaching assitant for the lab sections of CNIT240, the introductory network engineering class for students majoring in network engineering. This class covers several key networking concepts including switching, VLANs, DHCP, and basic routing. This job has helped me become a much better teacher, and helped me refine my communication and troubleshooting skills. I also give short lectures during labs and I am resposible for correcting all the lab reports (which helped my written communication skills). For the last 2 semesters, I have received a 4.7/5 and 4.9/5 in course evaluations respectively.

Technologies Used: Cisco networking (Routing and Switching, Microsoft DHCP, OpenDHCP, Basic network configuration via web-based GUIs)
Employement time: August 2017 - Current

Student Systems Administrator - Purdue University

I was a Student Systems adminsitrator at Purdue University for over 2 years. I was responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all of Purdue's supercomputers, and troubleshooting hardware and software issues. I am very proficient with Linux Systems Administration and BASH scripting. During my time at this job, I decreased the failure rate of clusters from 25% to less than 4%. I also interned here over Summer 2016 and Summer 2017.

Technologies Used: TORQUE, PXE, Puppet(limited), BASH scripting, Troubleshooting tools (for hardware and software troubleshooting)
Employement Time:
March 2016 - May 2018

(Future) Cisco Meraki

This summer, I will be interning at Cisco Meraki in San Francisco as a Network Support Engineer. I will be resposible for diagnosing and troubleshooting wireless, security, switching, phone, and other networking related issues reported by Cisco Meraki customers and partners. This would include collaborating with other support team members to fix network outages, misconfigurations, and complex networking issues.

About Me

My name is Shivam Trivedi, and I am currently an undergraduate student at Purdue University, majoring in Network Engineering Technology. I am a Student Systems Administrator at the Rosen Center for Advanced Computing, which is Purdue University's research (super)computing arm. Right now, I am working on a Bro Network Monitoring Cluster, which will improve network monitoring on Purdue Research Computing's 400Gbps internet link. At my job, I work on over 2500 servers, including Conte, one of the fastest university-owned computers in the world. I am also a teaching assistant in the Computer and Information Technology for CNIT240, the introductory course for Network Engineering Students.
Apart from the Bro project at my work, I am trying to write a blog which chronicles my experience with experimenting new technology. I am also working on AutoInstall, a piece of software which aims to automatically install and configure various Open Source softwares on a single machine.
During my free time, I love hiking, photography, and watching college sports. I love working on personal projects in my free time, most of which are hosted on my beloved server that I run in my room.
